Everyone dreams of becoming the most outstanding speaker on stage. Receive a standing ovation for 15 minutes. Smiling and bowing thrice because the thunderous claps never end.
If this is you, read on.
Preparation # 1 — Surround Yourself with Seasoned Marketers During Rehearsals
Because they know what to be highlighted to bring the message across.
My marketing director is great at this. He would listen to my entire presentation plus product demonstration and give targeted feedback.
“You need a big hook for your introduction.”
“Reduce your demonstration time by 5 minutes and allocate more time explaining why this is important for them.”
You may not always understand where they are coming from. You may want to fight back.
My advice to you is a simple one.
Do not.
Take their feedback and incorporate it. You may not understand why they say what they say. The only litmus test is the outcome.
Do you sound more coherent? With flow? More water-tight in the expression of ideas?
That is all that matters.
Product Marketing Preparation # 2 — Surround Yourself with Sales Professionals During Rehearsals
Because they know how to sell.
Because they know how to pitch.
And chances are, they need you to sell to the audience in front of you. Ask them for their opinions. They will gladly give you their feedback and time.
Because you will bring them high ticket leads and future revenue.
